The Line: Virginia Commonwealth Rams -7 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
George Washington and VCU will battle it out on Wednesday for the second time this season. The Colonials won the previous meeting a few weeks ago 76-66.
The Rams have turned the corner since that loss, winning six of their last seven. The defense has turned up its pressure, holding teams to 65.6 points, while the offense has topped 80 points four times in their last six wins. However, they did lose Saturday to St. Joseph’s 69-62 in large part because the offense shot just 41.7 percent from the field. The Rams remain 12-0 SU at home, while they’re 4-6 ATS in front of their home fans.

The Colonials have won seven of their last eight games and are keeping pressure on Saint Louis for the top spot in the Atlantic 10. During this sweet stretch, they’re shooting 51 percent from the field and averaging 74.6 points, while the defense is holding teams to 37 percent shooting and 63 points. Senior guard Maurice Cheeks is coming off of a 20-point performance in a win over Fordham. George Washington is 4-3 SU on the road and 7-4 ATS on the road.
This spread is interesting considering it’s a matchup between two of the top teams in the Atlantic 10. It makes the line even fishier knowing that George Washington just beat VCU a couple of weeks ago by double digits.
I’ve been backing the Rams over the last week or so, but this is simply too many points given to George Washington. We’re talking about a team that has covered seven of its last eight games. Meanwhile, VCU is just 4-9 ATS in its last 13 home games.
Don’t be surprised if the Colonials win this SU with their feisty defense and lights out shooting. But seven points? Uh, yea, sign me up.
