Storyline: San Diego looks to snap a three-game skid when they visit St. Mary’s Thursday.
The Breakdown: The Toreros dropped to 4-9 for 8th place in the WCC after suffering their third straight defeat 69-63 to Santa Clara Saturday. San Diego struggled from the field, connecting on 37.7 percent to the Broncos’ 42.6 percent and from outside the arc, hitting 4 of 12 to Santa Clara’s 10 of 20. The Toreros also conceded a 39-34 advantage on the boards and converted on just 19 of 30 from the free throw line. Sophomore G Duda Sanadze scored a game-high 23 points, junior G Johnny Dee had 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting, and junior G Christopher Anderson added 11 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. On the season, San Diego is averaging 67.3 ppg on 44.7 percent shooting. Dee leads the team with 17.2 ppg, followed by Sanadze at 13.3 ppg.

Meanwhile, St. Mary’s improved to 8-4 for 3rd place in the conference after a 69-67 overtime victory over Pepperdine Saturday. The Gaels shot a dismal 35.5 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from outside the arc to the Waves’ 41.8 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent from downtown. The Gaels, however, dominated the boards 40-31 and forced 13 turnovers. Senior G Stephen Holt scored a game-high 29 points on 8 of 17 shooting, senior F Beau Levesque had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and junior G Kerry Carter added 11 points. Through 25 games, St. Mary’s is averaging 74.5 ppg on 45.9 percent shooting. Junior F Brad Waldow leads the team with 16.6 ppg, followed by Holt at 14.4 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -12 for St. Mary’s, a big number considering the Gaels just lost to San Diego 18 points a couple weeks ago. The Toreros are skidding, but ook for a closer game than the spread.
