The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes return home after a two-game road trip and will host the East Carolina Pirates Thursday night. Both teams have won two of their last three games.
The Pirates are finally starting to generate a little momentum after wins over Texas-San Antonio and UAB, putting an end to a lengthy losing streak. The offense is shooting 45 percent from the field and averaging more than 75 points per contest, but the defense allows 74.2 points on 46.5 percent shooting. On the road the Pirates allow teams to shoot 47.9 percent from the field and average a little more than 78 points. Senior guard Akeem Richmond is coming off of a 31-point performance. The Pirates are 5-10-2 ATS this season and 4-4-2 ATS on the road.

The Golden Hurricanes defense has really turned the corner as of late. Allowing 71.1 points per game on 42 percent shooting on the season, they’ve allowed just 61.6 points on 38.2 percent shooting in their last five games. Offense is still a struggle, as they’ve scored 70 or more points just once in their last six games. The offense continues to rely heavily on James Woodard. Tulsa is 13-7 ATS and 6-2 ATS at home.
The spread on this game is quite high for my taste, especially with East Carolina playing well as of late. The last three meetings between these two teams have been decided by single digits and Tulsa doesn’t really have the offense capable of blowing anybody out.
The road team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these two teams.
Yeah, I know Tulsahas been a cover machine all season long, but I’m just not comfortable laying the 10-plus points in this one.
I’ll take my chances backing East Carolina and the hefty amount of points.
