Storyline: The Siena Saints look for the season sweep when they visit the Marist Red Foxes Friday.
The Breakdown: Siena improved to 7-7 for 6th place in the MAAC after a 77-75 victory over Fairfield Monday. Sophomore F Brett Bisping lifted the Saints to the win with a game-winning layup in the final 8 seconds of the game. Bisping finished with a team-high 17 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, junior G Rob Poole had 14 points and 6 boards, and junior G Evan Hymes added 13 points and 4 assists off the bench. Siena shot 48.1 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from outside the arc to the Red Foxes’ 49.1 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from distance. The Saints, however, came away with a 36-31 rebounding advantage and forced 13 turnovers. On the season, Siena is averaging 69.7 ppg on 42.9 percent shooting. Meanwhile, Marist dropped to 6-8 for 7th place in the conference following an 83-78 defeat at Quinnipiac Monday. The Red Foxes were outshot from the field 48.3 percent to 39.4 percent, but topped the Bobcats from outside the arc 54.5 percent to 42.9 percent. Marist conceded a 44-37 advantage on the boards, but forced 13 turnovers. The Red Foxes also converted on 10 of 16 from the free throw line to Quinnipiac’s 16 of 19. Junior F Chavaughn Lewis scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, freshman G Khallid Hart had 21 points, including 4 of 5 from downtown, and senior F Jay Bowie added 12 points. Through 24 games, Marist is averaging 65.9 ppg on 40.4 percent shooting. Lewis leads the team with 17.1 ppg, followed by Hart at 13.9 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -2 for Marist. Siena handed the Red Foxes a 67-58 loss when these two squared off a month ago and both shot pretty poorly in the game, the difference being Siena hit a few more shots and grabbed a few more boards. Not much separates these two, so Marist gets the lean cause they’re home.
