Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. Rice Owls - 2/15/14Randy's Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
Louisiana Tech could improve to 9-2 in conference play with a home win over Rice.
It has the potential to get ugly when the Rice Owls pay a visit to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
The Owls have lost 11 of their last 13 games and struggle mightily at both ends of the floor. But to their credit, they have won two of their last five games and are playing slightly better. In their last five games, though, they’re scoring only 67 points and allow opponents to score 72.4 points. On the road they are 2-3 SU and shoot a lousy 39.7 percent from the field. The Owls are 8-10 ATS and 5-4 ATS on the road.
The Bulldogs have won three straight and are coming off one of their best offensive performances in a win over North Texas where they scored 90 points and knocked down 10 threes. One of the more balanced teams in the country, the Bulldogs average 85 points and allow 63.6 points when they’re at home. They’re shooting 46.6 percent from the field in their last five games and remain one of the best rebounding teams in the country, averaging 40.3 boards per contest. Against the spread, they are 10-8 and 4-3 at home.
I rarely ever lay chalk this massive, but Rice really gives me no choice. We’re talking about arguably the best and worst teams in the C-USA squaring off. The Bulldogs are an absolute scoring machine and play solid defense while Rice does, well, neither very well.
Louisiana Tech is 4-1 ATS in its last five games against teams with a losing SU record.
There’s always a chance Rice gets a backdoor cover with the amount of points we’re laying, so I’d advise you to skip this game. However, if you must, you pretty much have no choice but to back the Bulldogs.
As I said, this game will get ugly.
