The Xavier Musketeers visit the Bradley Center for a Saturday afternoon duel with the Marquette Golden Eagles at 4PM on Fox Sports One.
Xavier is back in their groove as they moved to 17-7 and 7-4 in conference play with a 64-50 win over Butler this past week -- win number 2 in a row after a 3 game skid. Xavier’s D was the difference in this one as the Musketeers held Butler’s top two scorers to just a combined 8 points and held the entire team to just 34% shooting overall. On Xavier’s offensive side of the ball, Semaj Christon had 15 and Isaiah Philmore chipped in 10 points off the bench. Matt Stainbrook struggled offensively on the blocks, but managed a team high 9 boards. Guard Dee Davis racked up 9 assists to go along with his 9 points as well and controlled the offense effectively.

Marquette got a quality win this past week as they went to Seton Hall and came away with a 77-66 victory. The Golden Eagles finally put together a quality offensive showing on the road. Jamil Wilson exploded for a season high 25 points and 10 rebounds and Davante Gardner added a rock solid 16 and 6 as well. Todd Mayo added 11 and 6 off the bench as well and the Golden Eagles finished the game 42.9% from the field and an amazing 30-34 at the line. Marquette continues to be one of the better free throw shooting teams in the nation -- often helping keep them in games when their offense is so inconsistent. The win got the Golden Eagles over .500 in conference play as they now move to 6-5.
This is a big game for both teams as Xavier has returned to early season form and Marquette is starting to emerge and play consistent basketball. I think the difference here will be the Golden Eagles heavy home court advantage. I like the confidence of Jamil Wilson to be the difference as he outduels Semaj Christon for 20+ and the Golden Eagles get the win and cover at home.
