The Michigan State Spartans and the Nebraska Cornhuskers face off on Sunday in East Lansing in Big Ten college basketball.
The Michigan State Spartans are 3-3 in their last six games but they are still tied for first place in the Big Ten. MSU is 11-2 at home this season and 10-2 in the Big 10. Gary Harris is the Spartans leading scorer averaging 17.4 points per game. Adreian Payne is averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 15.0 points, and Denzel Valentine is averaging 8.0 points and 6.2 rebounds. Michigan State is averaging 78 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents are shooting 38.8 percent. Michigan State as ben through the wringer this season but their rebounding and solid fundamental play has seen them through.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have won four of their last five games and are playing their best basketball of the year. NU is 5-6 in the Big Ten, 2-9 away from home this season, and they are in sixth place in the conference standings. Terran Petteway is averaging 17.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Shavon Shields is averaging 12 points and 5.3 rebounds, Walter Pitchford is averaging 8.6 points, and Ray Gallegos is averaging 7.7 points. Nebraska is averaging 67.1 points and they are shooting 42.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.5 points and their opponents are shooting 43.8 percent. Nebraska appears to still be improving but they are 1-6 against teams ranked in the top 25.
Michigan State is 4-0 against the spread against the Big Ten, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games after a game that they covered the spread, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Nebraska is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games, 8-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 6-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread.
Michigan State is much the better team but this is a big number and with Keith Appling out I am taking the points with Nebraska.
