The Akron Zips clash with the Buffalo Bulls at Alumni Arena looking to maintain their share of first.
Akron has played their fair share of close ones and by looking at their record they have been very successful at winning them with a 9-3 mark and ashare of first with Toledo. Scoring on this team has been tough to do and Northern Illinois discovered that in a 62-54 loss on Saturday. The Huskies mustered just 35.8% shooting with the Zips countering with 45.7% combining with a handful of free throws to carry the day. Demetrius Treadwell was the only double digit scorer with 25 points and and ten rebounds with Quincy Diggs, Jake Kretzer and Nyles Evans adding nine points each with Kretzer snagging seven boards.

Buffalo is one of the more improved teams in the MAC but frittered away an opportunity for a share of first in a 73-70 loss to visiting Ohio on Saturday. The Bulls failed to protect several leads down the stretch and when that happens good teams make you pay. Instead UB is tied for fourth at 8-4, one game out of first. The Bobcats had no problem putting the ball in the basket at 48% including a 9-4 edge on threes which was just enough to overcome the Bulls 42.6% shooting. Javon McCrea shouldered the offense with 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals followed by a 13 point, six pull effort from Shannon Evans while Josh Freelove and Xavier Ford combined for 19 points.
If Akron can keep this close and avoid a second half Bull's run they have a shot but I have this feeling Buffalo opens things up with a big second half surge so I'm staying away...
