TV: ESPN Full Court

The LSU Tigers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Wednesday at the Pete Maravich Center for a SEC basketball battle.

The LSU Tigers have lost three of their last four games to put them into a four-way tie for fifth place in the SEC. LSU is 6-6 in the conference standings and 11-2 at home this year. Johnny O’Bryant III leads the Tigers averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Jordan Mickey is averaging 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, Andre Stringer is averaging 12 points, and Anthony Hickey is averaging 9.0 points. LSU is averaging 77.2 points and they are shooting 45 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.2 points and their opponents are shooting 40.5 percent. LSU was looking like a possible NCAA Tournament team but they aren’t looking much like one now.

LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Pick, Odds, Prediction 2/19/14

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have lost seven games in a row and are tied for last place in the SEC standings. MSU is 2-8 away from home and 3-9 in the SEC and they will battle to stay over .500. Craig Sword leads the Bulldogs averaging 12.8 points per game. Gavin Ware is averaging 10.6 points and 7.4 rebounds, Colin Borchert is averaging 9.4 points, and Roquez Johnson is averaging 9.2 points. Mississippi State is averaging 67.8 points and they are shooting 44.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 69.7 points ad their opponents are shooting 44.9 percent. Mississippi State hasn’t been within double digits of their opponent in their last four games.

LSU is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, and 4-10-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Mississippi State is 7-20-1 against the spread in their last 28 road games, 7-2-1 against the spread following a loss, and 1-5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. The underdog is 5-1-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.

LSU is much the better team but I just don’t like this number so I am going to take the points with MSU in what is a lean.
