The Line: Old Dominion Monarchs -10.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Rice Owls remain on the road and will face off against the Old Dominion Monarchs.
It’s no secret the Owls have been one of the worst teams in the C-USA, as they’ve lost four of their last five games. During that stretch, they’re scoring just 62 points on 41.2 percent shooting and the defense is allowing 75.6 points on 44 percent shooting. The offense has failed to score at least 60 points in three of their last four games and the defense has allowed 80-plus twice in their last five. They are averaging 58.5 points on the road and allowing 70.2 points. They are 8-11 ATS overall and 5-5 ATS on the road.
USA TODAY Sports
The Monarchs are coming off an absolute brutal road loss to Tulsa, as they lost 76-37. They shot just 27.7 percent from the field, turned the ball over 22 times and allowed the Golden Hurricanes to shoot 57.4 percent from the field. That’s terrible even for a team that shoots just 41.8 percent on the season. At home, the Monarchs average 66.8 points and allow 54.3 points. They are 11-12 ATS overall and 3-6 ATS at home.
After the performance Old Dominion just had, I’m not comfortable at all laying a double-digit spread, even if its opponent is Rice. And besides, the Owls have covered two of their last five games, while the Monarchs have covered just one in their last five. Hey, it’s still an advantage.
Rice has also kept four of its last seven games within 10 points. Neither team is great offensively, so there’s a good chance this is going to be a slow-paced game that is decided in the last five minutes or so.
Even though the Owls have been brutal all season, I like my chances with a 10-plus cushion.
