The Mercer Bears head out on the road to face the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles with first in the Atlantic Sun at stake.
Mercer sits atop the Atlantic Sun because of their consistency at both ends of the floor. The Bears have a top 20 offense that combines with a defense that allows around 66 points so they can win in a number of number of ways. Northern Kentucky saw the Bears at their best in an 89-67 rout on Sunday with their 43% marksmanship being no match for Mercer's nearly 59% accuracy including a 16-27 effort on threes. Langston Hall led the scoring spree with 25 points and eight helpers with Anthony White Jr. adding 13 points and six pulls followed by Bud Thomas and Daniel Coursey combining for 20 points.

Florida Gulf Coast is number two in the Atlantic Sun but are just a game off the pace because they generally get max efforts from both their scoring and defense. It was all offense in an 84-80 decision at a very dangerous South Carolina Upstate on Sunday. Both teams combined for 34 turnovers with the Eagles torid 58.8% shooting and 11-18 from distance carrying the day barely. The Spartans connected at at almost 47% and totaled nine more looks which were put to good use with five more free throws making this a tighter game then expected. FCGU received 24 points, six pulls and five steals from Bernard Thompson with Chase Fieler adding 17 points and five yanks while Jamail Jones and Dajuan Graf netted 14 and ten points.
Mercer can all but wrap up the conference with a win at Florida Gulf Coast but it won't be easy with both of their conference defeats coming on the road. I'll lean to the Bears because they are one of my favorite teams and I would love to see them win the conference...
