The Line: East Carolina Pirates -8 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Rice Owls finish up their three-game road trip with a matchup against the East Carolina Pirates.
The Owls have lost five of their last six games, including three in a row. In their last five contests, they’re averaging 57 points on 38.3 percent shooting and the defense is allowing 68.8 points on 41.8 percent shooting. We knew their offense was bad this season, but they’ve taken it to a completely different level over the last week or so. On the road, it’s pretty much the same deal, as they average 57.9 points and allow 68.9 points. They are 9-11 ATS overall and 6-5 ATS on the road.

The Pirates have only won two of their last five games, but are fresh off a shocking upset win over Louisiana Tech. Their defense held the Bulldogs to 37.5 percent shooting and 25 percent shooting from beyond the arc. That’s impressive stuff from a defense that allows 73.1 points on 45.9 percent shooting on the season. At home, they average 71 points and allow 72.1 points. They are 7-11-2 ATS overall and 2-6 ATS at home.
Usually this would be East Carolina or no play, but the Pirates are fresh off their biggest win of the season. This has letdown written all over it, as we’ve seen this happen all year throughout the college basketball season. A team wins a big game and then can’t wake up for the next game following it.
Not only are the Owls the play because of that, but they’re also 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a SU loss and the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between these two teams.
I’ll take Rice and the truckload of points.
