It's the battle of Bulldogs when the Citadel hosts Samford at McAlister Field House on Monday.
Samford can secure a fifth place spot in the SoCon if they sweep the remaining games and the cards fall just right but that's about all they can hope for at this point. The Bulldogs have onlt themselves to blame for not owning 5th with defeats in three of four with their struggling defense allowing far too many points. That was the case in an 86-69 loss at Elon last time out with the Phoenix 53% shooting and ten bombs outdistancing the Bulldogs 46%. Leading scorer Tim Williams tossed in 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds with Raijon Kelly and Isaiah Williams dropping 17 and 13 points.

At 0-14 in the conference the Citadel has no chance of escaping the SoCon basement but obviously want to get rid of that goose egg in the win column. The obvious problems for teams that have struggled more then the average is a lack of scoring punch combined with too much scoring from opponents. The Bulldogs fit that description with both trends continuing in a 70-52 loss at Western Carolina on Saturday. The Catamounts led by ten at the half behind 44% marksmanship which was plenty in holding off the 31.5% accuracy of the Citadel. Ashton Moore paced the Bulldogs with 16 points followed Matt Van Scyoc with ten with both posting five boards.
I don't feel like backing the Citadel because of their body of work and then I look at Samford and I have my back against the wall. I guess the team that has five conference wins is the choice but are they three points better here? I have no clue but maybe...
