Storyline: After dropping their last two, the #24 Texas Longhorns look to get back on the right side of the ledger when they square off with the surging Baylor Bears Wednesday in Austin.
The Breakdown: The Horns sit in a tie with Iowa State for second place in the Big12, falling to 9-5 after suffering an 85-54 shellacking at then #8 Kansas Saturday. Texas was stifled to 34.4 percent from the floor and 4 of 13 from outside the arc, while allowing the Jayhawks to shoot 51.7 percent from the field and 7 of 21 from distance. Texas also conceded a 39-37 advantage on the boards and struggled from the free throw line, converting just 8 of 19. Junior F Jonathan Holmes scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, sophomore C Cameron Ridley 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, and sophomore F Connor Lammert added 8 points off the bench. On the season, the Longhorns are averaging 76.0 ppg on 43.3 percent shooting. Holmes leads the team with 13.2 ppg, followed by freshman G Isaiah Taylor at 12.8 ppg.

Meanwhile, Baylor has reeled off its last four, improving to 6-8 for 7th place in the conference behind a decisive 88-75 victory over West Virginia Saturday. The Bears shot a stellar 54.2 percent from the floor and 45.0 percent from downtown to the Mountaineers’ 40.0 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from distance. Baylor came away with a 34-31 rebounding edge and converted 15 of 21 from the stripe. Junior F Ryce O’Neal scored a team-high 22 points to go with 6 rebounds and 6 assists, sophomore C Isaiah Austin had 19 points and 7 blocks, and senior F Corey Jefferson added 15 points and 12 boards. Through 27 games, the Bears are averaging 75.9 ppg on 46.1 percent shooting. Jefferson leads the team with 13.2 ppg, followed by senior G Brady Heslip at 11.5 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -4.5 for Texas. The Longhorns scored a 74-60 road victory over Baylor a month ago right in the middle of the Bears’ five-game slide. The tables have turned a bit lately, with Texas dropping three of its last five and the Bears taking four in a row. Look for the Horns to bounce back at home, though, and cover.
