Draddy Gymnasium will be fired up when the Iona Gaels come to town to face the Manhattan Jaspers.
After watching Iona the last few years I was skeptical about where they fit in the MAAC but they have impressed me with eleven consecutive victories behind an offense that seldom scores less then 75 points. Their run and gun philosophy has worked well for them and that trend continued in an 86-67 rout of Marist on the road. The Gaels blew open a three point game with a strong second half with 53% marksmanship putting up plenty of points while the Red Foxes were done in by 41% shooting and a 3-22 mark from long range. AJ English and David Laury paced the scoring with 22 points each with Sean Armand tossing in 16 followed by Tre Bowman and Isaiah Williams with 21 points.

Manhattan has the third spot in the conference lined up in their crosshairs as wins in the final two games assures them of a top four finish. The only problem is the final two opponents are Iona and Canisius which is a tough row to hoe. The Jaspers were cruising along with six straight wins before the offense went south in a 67-63 defeat at Siena last Friday. The defense played well enough to win with the Saints held to 37% from the floor but the 42% shooting Jaspers were done in by a 19-42 effort at the foul line and 16 turnovers. Manhattan received 17 points and seven pulls from George Beamon with Emmy Andujaradding 14 points and eight boards followed by Rhamel Brown and Michael Alverado with nine points apiece.
I don't know what type of effort we will see from Iona who has virtually wrapped up the top spot in the MAAC. Manhattan has to win but if the Gaels play like they need this I would take the points but I don't know if they will...
