The Providence Friars visit the Seton Hall Pirates in Saturday night Big East action from the Prudential Center at 7PM on CBS Sports Network.
Providence rolls into town sitting at 18-10 and 8-7 in conference play and are looking to seize control of the third place race in the big east. This past week, Providence jumped to 8-7 with a 87-81 win at Butler. The Friars were paced by Bryce Cotton’s 28 points. Cotton started hot and helped the Friars build a 13 point halftime lead. Tyler Harris, LaDontae Henton and Kadeem Batts combined for 43 points and 12 assists as well to aid the dominant Providence offensive output. The Friars racked up a rock solid 20 team assists and the forced 7 turnovers as well. The Friars shot red hot from the field and behind the arc with 60+% from both. The win marks two of three for Providence.
Seton Hall registered a horrible loss this past week as they fell to DePaul by a score of 65-60. Seton Hall managed to fall on the road to one of the worst teams in high major ball -- the Pirates were crushed on the glass and struggled to ever get in the game. Fuquan Edwin led the way with 21 points and Gibbs added just 3 points off the bench in just 13 minutes of action after returning from suspension. Seton Hall managed just 16 team rebounds and were killed in transition as well. The loss drops Seton Hall to .500 overall and 5-10 in conference play.
These two old rivals always play solid contests and while the home team usually has the edge, I like the Friars to visit and take down the win this week. Seton Hall has struggled recently and the Friars starting five should be able to overwhelm the Hall and pull away late for the cover on the road.
