The last home game of the season for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will be Saturday when they host the Rice Owls.
The season is almost over for the Owls, a team that has lost five straight and is just 2-12 SU in conference play. During their current losing streak, they’re averaging 53.6 points on 38.1 percent shooting and are allowing 66.8 points on 42.5 percent shooting. They’re also averaging 14 turnovers per game and making under 57 percent of their free throws. Still, two of their last three losses have been decided by four points or less. They average 57.7 points and allow 68.8 points on the road. They are 10-12 ATS overall and 6-6 ATS on the road.
The Blue Raiders had their nine-game winning streak snapped Thursday against Louisiana Tech. During the loss, they shot just 35.4 percent from the field and turned the ball over 19 times. Still, in their last five games, they’re shooting 43 percent from downtown and holding teams to just 53 points offensively. At home is where they really step up, as they average 73.6 points and allow 63.8 points. They are 12-13 ATS overall and 8-3 ATS on their home court.
I don’t like the amount of chalk we have to lay in this game, but the play has to be Middle Tennessee. We’re looking at a 16-point differently when combining Rice’s PPG average on the road and Middle Tennessee’s PPG average at home. That doesn’t include the fact that the Blue Raiders will be jacked up on senior day and looking for revenge after a lousy performance in their last game.
Middle Tennessee is 5-0 ATS in its last five home games and 4-1 ATS in its last five following a SU loss.
I’ll eat the chalk in this one.
