The Ohio Bobcats host the Kent State Golden Flashes with fourth in the MAC on their minds.

I have said many times that I thought Kent State was better then they have shown in conference action and to be honest I am now on the fence regarding that statement. The Golden Flashes have been involved in too many close games that have gone the wrong way and have been relegated to the bottom half of the MAC. Kent comes in off of a 73-66 loss at Bowling Green which looked like a winnable game but once the Falcons got the lead it seemed this was well in hand. The Golden Flashes connected at 35% from the floor which couldn't overcome the Falcons 47%. Devereaux Manley gave the offense 16 points with Kris Brewer tossing in 14 while Mark Henniger added ten points and six pulls.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Ohio and Akron are in a heated battle to win fourth in the MAC with both teams tied at 9-4 with three to play. The Bobcats have been a perennial contender in the conference although this season seems 'different' in my view. The Bobcats have had trouble playing a consistent 40 minutes of basketball and on several occasions have needed big comebacks to be competitive or avoid collapses with big leads. It was more of the former in a 69-65 defeat to visiting Buffalo Wednesday as the Bulls led by 15 at the half and then held off a late Ohio rally. The Bobcats shot the ball at 45% but gave the ball away 14 times leading to extra UB looks that were put to good use. Nick Kellogg kept the team afloat with 18 points and five yanks with Jon Smith and Treg Setty netting eleven and nine points.

This has always been a tight affair but Ohio has possibly taken a half step back but Kent State might have taken a full step back. Seems like either side is taking a guess...
