Storyline: Portland and Pacific both hope to snap lengthy losing streaks when they square off at the Spanos Center Saturday.
The Breakdown: The Pilots fell to 7-10 for 6th place in the WCC after losing their third sraight 70-61 at St. Mary’s Thursday. Junior C Thomas van der Mars had a team-high 22 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, senior F Ryan Nicholas scored 13 points and grabbed 8 boards, and sophomore G Bryce Pressley added 10 points and 7 assists. Portland connected on 48.1 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from outside the arc to the Gaels’ 44.4 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from distance. The Pilots came away with a 34-25 advantage on the boards and converted 7 of 9 from the free throw line to St. Mary’s 19 of 25. On the season, Portland is averaging 75.8 ppg on 45.6 percent shooting. Junior G Kevin Bailey leads the team with 16.5 ppg, followed by van der Mars at 13.2 ppg.

Meanwhile, Pacific has lost its last four, dropping to 5-12 for 8th place in the conference after a 70-53 thumping by Gonzaga Thursday. Freshman G T.J. Wallace scored a team-high 9 points off the bench, senior Tony Gill had 8 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, and senior G Andrew Bock added 7 points. The Tigers connected on a dismal 17 of 55 from the floor and 6 of 19 from outside the arc to the Bulldogs’ 21 of 50 from the floor and 7 of 18 from distance. Through 28 games, Pacific is averaging 73.0 ppg on 44.1 percent shooting. Bock leads the team with 11.4 ppg, followed by Gill at 11.3 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -3 for Pacific. Portland scored a 72-64 home victory over the Tigers back in January, but look for the Pilots to at least make it interesting.
