The 9th ranked Creighton Bluejays visits the Xavier Musketeers for a tough road test Saturday at 5PM on Fox Sports one.
Creighton takes to the road after a narrow road win at home against struggling Seton Hall 72-71. Creighton was dominated in the post in this contest as the Hall owned a +14 rebounding advantage for the game. Creighton only got 11 points off the bench but Doug McDermott and Grant Gibbs combined for 45 points and did enough to fend off the feisty Pirates. Creighton totaled just 14 assists for the game -- a solid output but about 4.5 less than the Bluejays average that ranks 2nd nationally. While Creighton held a significant edge with their shooting percentages, the Bluejays were well under their season average from the line, finishing just 20-31 from the line and allowing the Pirates to stick around. The win gets Creghton to 13-2 in conference play.

Xavier has hit some road bumps of late as they continue to challenge for the coveted 3rd place slot in the conference but got back in the win column with a huge road win at St. John’s this past week 65-53. The Musketeers and Johnnies were neck and neck in the standings and the win was huge for Xavier. Semaj Christon got back on track with a solid line of 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Jalen Reynolds added 17 off the bench for Xavier who blew open a 1 point halftime lead to take the win. Xavier finished 46% from the floor but were just 2-12 from the three point line and they also committed 15 turnovers -- uncharacteristic from the Musketeer guards. The win moves Creighton to 9-6 on the year in conference play.
Xavier is solid at home but the Bluejays are the class of this league and while I think this contest will be close throughout, I like Doug McDermott to once again be the difference as Xavier does not have a defender to counter him. Look for Creighton to pull away late with defense and solid shooting from deep and McDermott to go for his usual 20+ as the Bluejays get the road win and narrow cover.
