The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights will battle it out against the No. 1 seeded Robert Morris Colonials in the first round of the NEC Tournament. These teams played just last week, and Robert Morris won 69-64.
The Knights finished the regular season with a 10-20 record and lost eight of their last 10 games. They averaged 69.2 points on 41.6 percent shooting and allowed 76.4 points on 44.8 percent shooting. Senior guard Sidney Sanders Jr. is the only player on the team who averages double-digit points, as he’s the go-to guy with his 19.2 points per game average. The Knights are also one of the worst rebounding teams in the country with an average of 31.7 boards per game. Against the spread, they finished with an overall record of 3-2.

The Colonials were the most consistent team in the Northeast, but are coming off a 59-48 loss to Wagner. This season they averaged 73.2 points on 43.7 percent shooting and allowed 71.8 points on 45.8 percent shooting. They rely heavily on their shooting from downtown, as they shoot 38.6 percent from beyond the arc. Lucky Jones and Karvel Anderson average more than a combined 30 points per game. Robert Morris finished the season 1-3 ATS.
Now that we’re in the tournament, this is when both teams will start to show their true colors. And while the Colonials are clearly the better team, they’re last six games were decided by single digits. They’re not a team that really blows teams out, they just do what it takes to get by and get the W.
The Knights were able to keep this game close a week ago, and they should be able to do the same thing with a little more on the line this time around.
Robert Morris will win, but it’ll be a lot closer than some expect.
