The Line: Wagner Seahawks -13 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils will clash against the Wagner Seahawks on Wednesday in the first round of the NEC Tournament. These teams met twice earlier in the year, and split both meetings.
The Blue Devils are a fast-paced offensive team that hopes to get up a lot of shots and score plenty of points. The problem is that really limits them defensively. On the season, they averaged 70.5 points on 43.8 percent shooting and allowed 76.9 points on 45.1 percent shooting. They’ve only held seven teams to under 70 points, and they still lost four of those games. The Blue Devils have three players averaging double-digit points, but they also turn the ball over 14 times a game. Against the spread, they’re 1-0 this season.

The Seahawks ended the season with eight straight wins, which were good enough to earn them the No. 2 seed in the tournament. They’re a team that focuses a lot more on defense. On the season, they averaged 71 points on 42.2 percent shooting and allowed 68.5 points on 39.1 percent shooting. They haven’t allowed more than 68 points since February 6. They’re also one of the best rebounding teams in the country, averaging 39 boards per game. Offensively, they have four players averaging at least 10.3 points per game. They were 3-1 ATS this season.
I hardly ever lay a big number in a tournament game, but this matchup calls for just that. I just don’t see how the Blue Devils are going to keep up unless they have a remarkable shooting performance, but that’s hard to vision against a solid Wagner defense.
The Seahawks blew the Blue Devils out of the water back in January, 88-59. I see a similar performance happening in this game.
Take the chalk.
