The Arkansas State Red Wolves can move a step closer to fourth in the Sun Belt with a win over UL Monroe.
Louisiana-Monroe has indeed improved from previous seasons but the long year appears to be wearing on them as they have dropped eight of eleven with two to play. The scoring and defense broke down in a 61-45 defeat at the hands of visiting Troy Saturday with a 38-18 deficit at the half effectively ending this. The Warhawks 34% shooting and 16 giveaways made the 39% accuracy of the Trojans a winning number. Nick Coppola was the lone double digit scorer with ten points with Marvin Williams adding nine points and seven rebounds as the Warhawks never found the shooting touch.

Back to back defeats have left Arkansas State scrambling to finish fourth in the Sun Belt with Arkansas-Little Rock only a game behind after Georgia State came from behind late to nip the Red Wolves 79-76 in overtime Tuesday. Both teams sank shots in the 42% range with the Red Wolves hitting a few more threes and the Panthers winning it with a 15-6 advantage at the charity stripe. Melvin Johnson III led a balanced attack with 19 points and six yanks with Kirk Van Slyke on his heels with 18 points and five pulls followed by Brandon Reed and Cameron Golden with 13 points each with Golden nabbing eight boards and posting five assists.
I respect all teams regardless of what their record might say. However, when I look at what is at stake for Arkansas State I believe it's time to put up or shut up and anything less then an impressive win and this team is over rated in my eyes. The funny thing is the spread looks spot on so no thanks...
