The Mercer Bears clash with the USC Upstate Spartans with a trip to the Atlantic Sun Championship on the line.
South Carolina Upstate finished third in the Atlantic Sun, a full two games ahead of North Florida and looked like the superior team before the Ospreys made a serious run that eventually fell short in an 80-74 decision. The Spartans were up eight at the break and consistently le by DD until late but were never able to put North Florida away although the boxscore said they should have. A 48%-41% shooting advantage and 18 forced turnovers was enough to get the job done with Ricardo Glenn scoring 22 points and snagging nine boards with Ty Greene adding 14 while Fred Miller and Jodd Maxey netted 13 and 12 points and combined for 12 pulls.

Mercer had zero problem advancing to the Atlantic Sun semifinals as they pounded Jacksonville at both ends of the floor in an 85-64 decision. The Bears were up nine after 20 minutes and slowly pulled away from there as they seldom missed a shot. Mercer connected at 50% from the floor including 10-21 from long range while hitting at a near perfect 19-23 at the foul line. In contrast the Dolphins were held to under 42% from the field and gave the ball away 14 times to give the better shooting team eight more looks. Anthony White Jr. exploded for 29 points and seven pulls with Bud Thomas adding 18 points and nine boards followed by Jakob Gollon with ten. Overall eleven players received floor time with the game well within hand.
I am a Mercer fan but there is something about South Carolina Upstate that should worry Bears fans. It has something to do with this being a pretty good team and no way would I lay the points...
