The Line: Akron Zips -7 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Kent State Golden Flashes and Akron Zips will close out their regular seasons with a matchup on Friday night. These teams met on February 1, and Kent State won 60-57 after making a last-second shot.
The Golden Flashes have been a little streaky as of late, losing three of their last four games, and it all starts on the defensive end. This is a team that allows 66.1 points on 43.1 percent shooting on the season. However, they’re allowing 69.6 points on 37.5 percent from downtown in their last five matchups. Eight of the last nine times they’ve allowed 70 or more points, they’ve lost the game. On the road, the Golden Flashes average 69.7 points and allow 70.2 points. They are 12-15 ATS overall and 8-4 ATS on the road.

The Zips are looking to end their regular season on a three-game winning streak despite playing some streaky basketball. Another team that prides it itself on the defensive end, the Zips are allowing teams to shoot 47.6 percent from the field in their last five games. Offensively, they’re averaging 68.2 points on 42 percent shooting. Senior forward Quincy Diggs is coming off a 25-point performance. At home, the Zips average 67.3 points and give up 59 points. They are 9-17 ATS overall and 4-6 ATS at home.
With both teams so defensive minded, I’d consider waiting for the total to be released and take a hard look on the under. However, for the sake of the article, the last five meetings between these teams have been decided by less than five points. It took Kent State a late-second shot to be the Zips earlier in the season, and with this game taking place in Akron, a place where they’re 12-2 SU, I like Akron in this spot.
It’s senior night, the crowd will be ready for it. I’ll take the hoem team, and look for the streak of close games to come to an end.
