The Northern Iowa Panthers and Southern Illinois Salukis will meet in a MVC Tournament matchup on Friday. These teams have played each other twice already this season, and they split both meetings.
The Panthers ended the season winning five of their last six games and earning a solid seed in the tourney. They average 72.8 points on 45.2 percent shooting and allow 70.1 points on 44.7 percent shooting. They have four players averaging at least 10 points, only average 10 turnovers per game and they make 72.8 percent of their free throws. Their weakness would be rebounding, as they snag just 32.6 boards per game. The Panthers are 14-14 ATS this season.

The Salukis have won seven of their last 10 games and do so with terrific defense. While they average only 66.3 points on 45.4 percent shooting, they allow just 67.1 points on 44.1 percent shooting. A total of 11 of their 13 wins this season have come when they’ve allowed under 70 points. Offensively, they have one of the better MVC players in Desmar Jackson, who has scored in the double digits in every game this season. The team’s weakness would be free throwing shooting, as they make just 67.5 percent from the free throw line. The Salukis are 15-14 ATS overall.
While Southern Illinois has the best player on the court, the Panthers are the better overall team. They won the most recent meeting by 19 points and lost the first meeting in January by only two points. When you add the two games together, it’s clear Northern Iowa should win this game fairly easily.
The Panthers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
I’ll eat the small amount of chalk, as a double-digit victory certainly isn’t out of the question.
