The North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs take the floor in a Big South quarterfinal match up with Radford.
North Carolina-Asheville was a dominant squad a season ago but graduation tends to catch up to most teams in the smaller conferences and the Bulldogs were no exception. This was one of the best teams in the Big South but dropped to 4th with a 10-6 record which was only two games out of first. UNCA hasn't changed their approach as lighting up the scoreboard is how they do things and they do it well by outscoring opponents 77-75. The Bulldogs were seldom held below 70 points which tells me their success will once again depend on their scoring ability. That means Andrew Rowsey (20 ppg) and Jaron Lane (16 ppg) have to continue to put the ball in the basket.
Radford wasn't supposed to have any trouble in disposing of opening round opponenent Presbyterian on paper but nobody old the Blue Hose who did themselves proud in a 78-73 defeat as a 15 point underdog. In the end the Highlanders offense prevailed despite being outshot 56.6%-48% because of a decisive 19-4 advantage at the charity stripe and 13 forced turnovers. Ya Ya Anderson led the scoring parade with 18 points with Javonte Greene adding 16 points and nine boards. RJ Price was next in line with a 15 point effort while Rashun Davis and Jalen Carethers combined for 21 points with Carethers snaring eight rebounds.
Looks like a toss up which the line says so in trying to find an edge I see that Radford has played like opponents slightly better and that's about all I can find...
