The Eastern Kentucky Colonels battle the Belmont Bruins in the Ohio Valley championship Saturday.
Eastern Kentucky faced a tough foe in Murray State in the conference semifinals but in the end it was the Colonels who proved to be a bit tougher. EKY appeared to be in control with a nine point lead after 20 minutes before a late Racers rally made things interesting but Eastern Kentucky had too much offense and just enough defense going for them. The Colonels blistered the nets with 59% shooting which added up to a decisive nine more field goals. Corey Walden led the scoring with 24 points and six steals with lenn Cosey tossing in 17. Orlando Williams followed with 13 while the duo of Eric Stutz and Marcus Lewis netted ten points each.

Although Belmont wasn't considered to be as strong as in year's past, here they are in the Ohio Valley title game which speaks for itself. The Bruins had way too much scoring and defense for semifinal opponent Morehead State in an 86-63 rout on Friday. A ten point lead after 20 minutes quickly got out of hand for the Eagles who were limited to 39% from the floor and 3-17 on threes while Belmont fired away at 53% including 11-23 from beyond the arc. JJ Mann led all scorers with 16 points with Blake Jenkins adding 13 points and six boards while Craig Bradshaw, Evan Bradds and Nick Smith each contributed eleven points as the Bruins emptied the bench.
No line out for this one but Belmont will be favored for the third time with the Bruins winning both previous games in exciting fashion. I expect another high scoring close one but please check back...
