The Providence Friars visit the Creighton Bluejays in pivotal Big East action Saturday at 8PM on Fox Sports One.
Providence got a huge win against Marquette in 2OT this past week. Bryce Cotton once again pulled through as he hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds left to seal the big win for Providence. Cotton had 25, 9 assists and 7 boards and continues to single handedly keep Providence’s post season hopes alive. Four Friars starters reached double figures once again with 35 points from Henton and Fortune. Providence was crushed on the glass, but had 13 blocked shots on the night and got out in transition early and often on their way to the win.

Creighton locked in 2nd place in the conference this past week with a loss at Georgetown 75-63. The Bluejays have now lost their last two contests on the road and in this one, they were doomed by horrible bench play as only two players scored for the Bluejays and they both combined for 7 points total. Doug McDermott had a quiet 22 points and Grant Gibbs had 17 but only 1 assists. Creighton were killed at the line where they sent the Hoyas many times after finishing with 18 total fouls. Creighton managed 10 three’s, but struggled to just 34% from deep.
Providence is in need of a quality road win to move into strong consideration for the tournament. The Friars have displayed one of the most potent starting 5’s in the league in recent weeks and are peaking at the right time. I like the Friars with the road upset versus the Bluejays as they get the narrow cover behind a strong showing from Bryce Cotton.
