In a Southern Tournament Quarterfinal matchup, the Western Carolina Catamounts will square off against the Elon Phoenix. These teams split both meetings earlier this season.
The Catamounts are a quick-paced offensive team that wants to get up a lot of shots. They average 73 points on 42.3 percent shooting and have three players averaging at least 11.4 points per game. Defensively, they allow 73.4 points on 45.4 percent shooting and have allowed at least 77 points in four of their last six games. On the road, they average 69.7 points and allow 74.9 points. They are 9-15 ATS overall this season.

The Phoenix are one of the better offensive teams you’re going to find in the Southern Conference. They average 71.9 points on 45.3 percent shooting. They knock down nearly 38 percent from beyond the arc, make above 70 percent from the free throw line and have six players averaging more than five points per game. Defensively, they allow 71.4 points on 44.4 percent shooting, which includes at least 80 points 10 times. On the road, the Phoenix score 71.5 points and give up 70.5 points. They are 11-16 ATS overall.
The last time these teams met, Elon shot a blistering 53.1 percent from the field and knocked down nine threes. When those shots are falling, there’s nothing Western Carolina can do about it. And with the way the Catamounts have played defense as of late, allowing 83 or more points in two straight games, you can’t help but think the Phoenix will have another big day.
Elon has won three of the last four meetings SU against Western Carolina, and there’s simply too much scoring power to think this game will be any different.
Give me the Phoenix and the chalk.
