The Manhattan Jaspers take the hardwood with the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a MAAC quarterfinal bout.
Manhattan was a top four team in the MAAC the last few years and this season figured to be more of the same except with a championship to go with it. Instead the Jaspers were forced to settle for second behind Iona with a 15-5 record. Manhattan finished the regular season on an 8-1 run and survived a long stretch without injured star Georgr Beamon which might have cost them first. The uptempo Jaspers outscored opponents 77-70 and I would expect them to push the ball in the postseason because they shoot well and can defend the shot in case their own aren't falling. Look for Beamon at the front leading the way with his nearly 20 points and seven rebounds.

Saint Peters's hasn't enjoyed a ton of success in the MAAC with there slower way of doing things that was generally pitted against some big time attacks but Fairfield provided a nice opening round opponent because of their similar styles. It was almost too good to be true as the Peacocks needed overtime to prevail 65-62 on Thursday. The Stags won the shooting battle 42%-37% which gave them a few more baskets but the Peacocks won this at the charity stripe where 19 Fairfield personals were turned in to a 22-13 advantage. Desi Washington paced the attack with 14 points with Marvin Dominique adding eleven points and ten rebounds while the twosome of Quadir Welton and Trevis Wyche netted ten points each and 13 boards.
Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's twice by double figures but if you know anything about the MAAC past history means nothing. The Jaspers have to win or good bye NCAA hopes...
