The Big South championship will be decided Sunday when the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers face the Winthrop Eagles.
Winthrop has been the master of the close one in the quarter and semifinals with both wins coming by a grand total of three points following an 80-79 decision over North Carolina-Asheville on Saturday. The offensively minded Eagles led by six at the break and needed every point they could muster despite 58% shooting that was barely enough to top the better long range and foul shooting of Asheville. Keon Moore gave the offense 20 points followed by the duo of Joab Jerome and Keon Johnson with 16 points each while Larry Brown chipped in with ten points and eight rebounds.

The big question for Coastal Carolina in their semifinal bout with VMI was could they slow down the best scoring team in the land. The answer was yes with their 66-62 decision with the Keydets limited to a mere 28% marksmanship with an 8-31 mark from distance. The Chanticleers responded with 43% accuracy which added up to seven more field goals which was decisive. Josh Cameron was the leading scorer with 17 points with Warren Gillis tossing in 12 while Badou Diagnu and Elijah Wilson netting eleven points apiece with Diagnu hauling in a contest best eleven rebounds. The starting five accounted for all but nine points.
WInthrop is the dog here but I believe they have a chance to win outright.
