The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles look for their second straight Atlantic Sun title when they face the Mercer Bears.
Mercer had an easy go of it in their 21 point rout of Jacksonville in the Atlantic Sun quarters but had to fight for their lives in the semis in a 78-75 overtime victory over USC Upstate. The best combination of scoring and defense in the conference was pushed to the brink with both teams sinking shots in the 41% range with 14 bombs carrying the Bears attack to offset a few more field goals from the Spartans. Langston Hall paced the scoring with 21 points and six helpers with Jalob Gallom adding 17 points and five pulls followed by 12 points and six yanks from Anthony White Jr..

Florida Gulf Coast also had an easy path in the conference playoff opener with a 22 point rout of Stetson that was never in question. The semifinals were a completely different animal as East Tennessee State fought tooth and nail in a 69-65 defeat. The Eagles defense stole the show with their own offense struggling to just 37% which was still better then the Buccaneers 33% and accounted for a few more FG's that combined with more foul shots to counter eight threes from the Buccaneers. Chase Fieler pumped in a game high 22 points and snared 15 rebounds followed a 14 point, sisx pull and six steal effort from Bernard Thompson while Brett Comer and Jamail Jones combined for 21 points with Jones posting ten yanks.
Both teams could have easily lost the semifinals with Mercer probably having to face the tougher team. Right now I'm backing Florida Gulf Coast but would love to see Mercer win...
