The Marshall Thundering Herd and Florida Atlantic Owls will meet Tuesday in a C-USA first round matchup. When these teams played on February 1, the Owls won 65-57.
The Thundering Herd went just 4-12 SU in conference play and lost seven of their last nine games. They average 69.8 points on 41.7 percent shooting and allow 72.7 points on 45.2 percent shooting. They are led by freshman guard Kareem Canty, who averages 16.4 points and 5.7 assists. The Thundering Herd are one of the better rebounding teams at 37.4 boards per game, but they’re a poor free throw shooting team at just 62.4 percent. They finished the season 9-15-1 ATS overall.

The Owls ended their season on a six-game losing streak, which didn’t help with the conference’s leading scorer in Pablo Bertone being sidelined the final two games with an injury. They average 65.3 points on 41.9 percent shooting and allow 70 points on 43.3 percent shooting. The Owls strength would be their rebounding, as they average 36.9 boards per game, however, their weakness is their free throw shooting at 65.5 percent. They are 12-14 ATS overall this season.
The Thundering Herd are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss, but just 1-3-1 ATS in their last five conference games. The Owls are 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall and 7-17 ATS in their last 24 games against teams with a losing SU record.
This game really comes down to whether or not Bertone plays for the Owls. We’re talking about somebody who averages 18.9 points per game and has scored 26 or more in his last two starts.
I’m assuming he’ll find a way to play in this tournament game, which has me leaning FAU in a pick'em.
