For a chance to face Tulane in the second round of the C-USA Tournament, the Rice Owls and North Texas Mean Green will square off Tuesday. Surprisingly, the Owls won the only meeting between these teams this season, 75-70 back in February.
The Owls are simply not a good basketball team, ending their regular season on a seven-game losing streak. They average just 61.2 points on 41 percent shooting and allow 70.5 points on 44.1 percent shooting. They shoot only 66.1 percent from the free throw line and are one of the worst rebounding teams in the country at 32.2 boards per game. Freshman forward Sean Obi is their best player, averaging 11.4 points and 9.3 rebounds. Their ATS is 10-14 overall.

The Mean Green got hot at the right time, winning four of their last six regular season games. On the season, they average 69.7 points on 42.3 percent shooting and allow 72.9 points on 43.4 percent shooting. Jordan and Alzee Williams are their main two guys, as they combine for 23.8 points and 8.5 rebounds. However, much like the Owls, they shoot just 66.9 percent from the free throw line, but they do have an advantage inside with an average of 37.1 rebounds. They are 11-11-1 ATS overall.
The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings between these two teams. The Owls are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven meetings, while the Mean Green are 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a SU loss.
Although Rice won the previous matchup this season, the Mean Green have gotten their act together as of late and have really beaten up the bottom half of the conference. Look for their advantage on the glass to make the difference in this game and not only get the win, but the cover as well.
The Owls’ season will end painlessly.
