The DePaul Blue Demons and the Georgetown Hoyas square off in late game action from the Big East tournament Wednesday night at 9:30PM on Fox Sports One.
DePaul had a rough go of it this season and the end result was a last place finish and the worst seed in the conference tournament. The Blue Demons finished 3-15 in conference play and 11-20 overall. DePaul was a competitive squad early on this year and started off pretty solidly but were undone by the loss of swingman Cleveland Melvin who was a veteran on this squad and one of the most reliable scorers on the team. The Blue Demons are led by Brandon Young --- the forward averages 16.2 points per game and 3.6 assists. DePaul has struggled to make up Melvin’s 16 points and 6 boards per game but has consistently gotten solid bench production Garrett Jr. and Hamilton IV. The Blue Demons need to get better production from the point slot as well -- DePaul ranks 286th in the nation in team assists with 11.2 per game.

Georgetown experienced a roller coaster ride of a season and currently find themselves looking from the outside in on the NCAA tourney in need of a deep run this weekend. The Hoyas have alternated wins and losses of late but do feature some very quality wins on their resume. The Hoyas go as their backcourt does -- D’Vauntes Smith Rivera and Markel Starks combine for nearly 34 points per game and Starks leads the team in assists with 4.1 per game. The Hoyas shoot it 46.2% from the floor, good for 78th nationally. The Hoyas wore down the Blue Demons in both meetings this season, holding the Blue Demons to under 60 points in both games.
Georgetown has been jekyl and hyde all season but the Blue Demons provide a fairly strong matchup for the Hoyas. I like Georgetown to get the usual big numbers from their backcourt and for one of their front court players, likely Lubick or Hopkins to get to double figures and help lead the way as the Hoyas pull away early in the second half for the cover and win in round 1.
