The Southeastern Louisiana Lions take the floor with the Nicholls State Colonels in the Southland playoffs.
If you look at what Southeastern Louisiana has accomplished in 2013-14 you see the team has been all over the map with some wins, close defeats and a few routs which add up to a 7-11 record and 10th place finish in the Southland. Interesting is the fact that when the Lions win the defense has played a lead role which has me thinking that this unit is the key to success in the postseason because the offense can be all over the map. Assuming the defense can hold their own then the duo of JaMichael Hawkins and Antonnio Benton (combined 24 points) better bring their A+ game offensively.

At one point Nicholls State appeared to be a challenger in the Southland when they were 7-2 but a 3-6 run had the team floundering at the worse possible time. Offensive cosistency was a major concern especially when the defensive end of the floor was getting stops. Consistency for the Colonels is key because adequate scoring and defense makes this a competitive team. The defense was playing better then we had seen the eentire year over the final two weeks so that tells me that some decent offense and a surprise or two is not out of the question. The key on the offensive end are Dantrell Thomas (15.7 ppg) and Jeremy Smith (14 ppg) because both are proven scorers and sink well above 50%.
Not much to go on here with each producing similar numbers. I could make an argument for both teams but in reality both teams are in the middle of the conference for a reason. If the Lions play defense similar to the end of the year I think they are the better choice...
