The Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the first round of the ACC tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

The Notre Dame dropped to 15-16, 6-12 ACC after losing to North Carolina on the road last week to finish up the regular season. On the season, Eric Atkins leads the Irish in scoring and assists, averaging 13.9 points and 4.8 assists per game for Notre Dame. Garrick Sherman is averaging 13.6 points per game while averaging a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game. The Fighting Irish are shooting 45.7% from the field while averaging 72.1 points per game as a team this season. Notre Dame is a decent rebounding team and they are one of the best teams when it comes to distributing the basketball, averaging 15.1 assists per game. The Fighting Irish have lost nine out of their last thirteen games overall. Notre Dame has gone 1-1 on neutral floors this season, beating Indiana and losing to Ohio State earlier in the season.

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons dropped to 16-15, 6-12 ACC after losing at Miami 69-56 last weekend as they finished up the regular season. On the season, Codi Miller-McIntyre is leading the Demon Deacons in scoring and assists, averaging 12.9 points and 4.1 assists per game. Devin Thomas is averaging 11 points per game along with a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game. Wake Forest is averaging 69.8 points per game while shooting 45% from the field as a team this season. The Demon Deacons are a good rebounding team, averaging 34.8 boards per contest. Wake Forest had lost seven straight games before earning two wins out of their last four games over the past week. Wake Forest has lost their last five road games in conference play and they are 1-2 on neutral courts this season.

Wake Forest beat Notre Dame by 7 points back in January at home. Neither one of these teams is going to make a run in the conference tournament due to the lack of playmaking ability and depth. Notre Dame is usually a dangerous team with plenty of time to prepare and they have had a week to develop a game plan for this one. Wake Forest has not played well away from home and I think they will struggle on Wednesday. Notre Dame will avenge their loss to Wake Forest earlier in the year and will earn the cover on Wednesday.
