The Alabama A&M Bulldogs tangle with the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in a SWAC postseason clash.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff made a torid run to close the season, going 9-2 to secure fourth in the SWAC with an 11-7 mark which was only a game out of second. The final numbers tell us the Golden Lions were outscored 71-64 and while the offense was around this number in the season ending run the defensive end of the floor allowed an average of 5-6 points less. If UAPB is to make noise their newly discovered defense has to keep the scoreboard under control because scoring points is still not a specialty. DaVon Haynes (13 ppg) and Marcel Mosley (13.6) are the best scoring options because they are the best shooters.

Similar to their counterparts Alabama A&M finished 2013-14 strong with a 7-4 run that enabled them to grab the 5th spot. The Bulldogs were also outscored 68-65 overall but in winning three of their last four we can see a completely different trend where they averaged around 73 points in the wins and around 63 allowed. Great numbers to have wntering the postseason so is this team suddenly getting hot at the perfect time or is it just the way things went for a few games. Whatever the case, to make a playoff run the defense has to continue the strong trends and the score by committee offense with one double digit scores has to put the ball in the basket.
Both teams have nearly identcal numbers with Arkansas-Pine Bluff looking better the last 11 games while Alabama A&M has looked better the last two weeks. Longer term success would seem logical but logic doesn't always mean something in the SWAC...
