The DePaul Blue Demons square off against the Creighton Bluejays in 2-10 action from the Garden on Fox Sports one.
DePaul was the surprise of day one as the Blue Demons used late 2nd half hot shooting and clutch free throws to upend the Georgetown Hoyas -- likely sending the Hoyas to the NIT. DePaul kept the contest close throughout and embarked on an 8-0 run with about 5 minutes left that would prove to be the difference. Forrest Robinson stepped up and was huge in the absence of Cleveland Melvin -- Robinson finished with 14 points and knocked down 4 threes, as well as pulling down 5 rebounds. Billy Garrett Jr. was clutch at the line down the stretch and finished with 17 points -- Garrett was perfect from the stripe (81% on the year). Brandon Young added 13 before fouling out with roughly 3 minutes remaining. If the Blue Demons can get another solid game from Robinson, they become a much more dangerous team.

Creighton locked up the two seed in the tournament with a strong inaugural season in the big east and finished conference play 14-4. The Bluejays are very efficient on offense -- they rank 2nd nationally in assists (17.9) and 6th in FG % (49.6%). The Bluejays are led by unanimous conference player of the year Doug McDermott - the senior swingman is arguably the toughest guard in the country for opposing defenses. McDermott finished the season averaging 26.5 points per game and just over 7 rebounds. Wragge is their second leading scorer at just over 10 points per game and Chatman paces the offense, averaging just over 4 assists per game. The Bluejays dominated DePaul in both meetings this season.
DePaul made a nice statement with their win over Georgetown but things will get much more difficult Thursday. Creighton is too deep and too heady for DePaul and I expect McDermott to go off on the big stage. Look for 25+ from McDermott and a second half pull away by the Bluejays who finish off DePaul with the cover and win at the Garden.
