The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Northwestern Wildcats face off on Thursday in Indianapolis in an opening round Big Ten Tournament game.
The Iowa Hawkeyes closed out the regular season losing five of their last six games and after spending most of the season ranked they finished out of the rankings. Iowa is 9-9 in the Big ten and 7-7 in games played away from home. Roy Devyn Marble leads the Hawkeyes averaging 17 points per game. Aaron White is averaging 13.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, Mike Gessell is averaging 8.3 points, and Melsahn Basabe is averaging 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. Iowa is averaging 82.6 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.1 percent. Iowa beat Northwestern by 26 in their last meeting.

The Northwestern Wildcats closed out their regular season with a win at Purdue but overall it was an awful year. Northwestern went 6-12 in Big Ten play and 5-9 in games played away from home. Drew Crawford leads the Wildcats averaging 15.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Tre Demps is averaging 10.9 points and Alex Olah is averaging 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds. Northwestern is averaging 59.5 points and they are shooting 39.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.3 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent. Northwestern has never made the NCAA Tournament and this will be another year added to the streak.
Iowa is 0-4 against the spread following a loss, 0-6 against the spread in their last six games, and 6-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Northwestern is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games, 2-6 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The favorite has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
