The Charlotte 49ers and Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will play Thursday night in a C-USA tournament quarterfinal. When these teams played on January 23, the Bulldogs won by a score of 80-60.
The 49ers won Wednesday’s first tournament game against UAB, 80-70, despite being two-point underdogs. They shot 49.1 percent from the field, came away with seven steals and had three bench players’ score in the double figures. That’s not the team we’ve gotten used to seeing over the last couple of months. On the season, the 49ers average 71.7 points on 44.5 percent shooting and allow 71.2 points on 43.2 percent shooting. They’ve been one of the more inconsistent teams all year and can go in a serious scoring drought, as they’ve scored 68 or fewer points in six of their last nine games. They’re 13-13 ATS overall.

The Bulldogs haven’t played in a week and head into this matchup winning eight of their last nine games. On the season, they average 80.5 points on 45.4 percent shooting and allow 65.3 points on 40.9 percent shooting. They have four players averaging in the double figures and are one of the best rebounding teams in the country at 39.5 boards per game. However, a weakness for them would be their poor free throw shooting at 68.1 percent. Still, they’re the No. 1 seed for a reason and have covered 14 of their 24 lined games this season.
The 49ers are 4-0 ATS in their last four neutral site games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against teams with a winning SU record. The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 neutral site games.
The 49ers are just too inconsistent and haven’t fared well against the better teams in the conference. I hate laying big numbers in tournament games, but the 49ers leave me no choice.
Give me the Bulldogs in what should be another blowout.
