The Sacramento State Hornets and North Dakota Sioux will play Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Big Sky tournament. These two teams split the season series with the home team winning both games.
The Hornets head into this matchup losing three of their last four games. On the season, they average 68 points on 45.2 percent shooting and allow 70.5 points on 46.9 percent shooting. They don’t have much scoring depth, as only two players average eight or more points, but they shoot 37 percent from beyond the arc and 71.9 percent defensively. They also don’t have much size, averaging just 31.5 rebounds per game. The Hornets are 14-10-2 ATS this season.

The Sioux have been playing some of their best basketball of the season, winning four of their last five games. On the season, they’re averaging 72.8 points on 45.2 percent shooting and are allowing 75.6 points on 50.7 percent shooting. They’re a fast paced team that gets up a lot of shots, but don’t play much defense and struggles to rebound the basketball, as they average just 31.4 boards per game. However, they have six players averaging at least 5.4 points, and they average nine steals defensively. The Sioux are 10-17-1 ATS on the season.
The Hornets are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS win and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven following a SU win. The Sioux are 3-0-1 ATS following an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five following a SU loss.
While those trends aren’t telling us much, you have to like North Dakota to come out victorious in this game. The Hornets are the hotter team at the moment and if the shots are falling, the Sioux simply don’t have what it takes to keep up.
We’re not eating that much chalk in this one, so North Dakota looks tasty.
