The Connecticut Huskies battle the Cincinnati Bearcats in the conference semifinals on Friday.
When Connecticut took the floor with Memphis in what was essentially a home game for the Tigers, I didn't know if the Huskies where better or just matched up well with their rivals. After a 71-53 rout gave UConn a 3-0 record against Memphis I'd say they are better. A 14 point lead at the brreak got bigger and bigger behind 53% marksmanship including a 10-20 effort on threes which was game over with the D allowing 26% accuracy. Niels Giffey pumped in a game 24 points and snagged nine boards with DeAndre Daniels adding 13 point and five yanks followed by Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright with eleven points each.

I've said this many times but will say it again, don't bet Cincinnati as a double digit favorite because they struggle to cover big numbers. A 61-58 decision over Central Florida was a good example as the team has a world class defense but slows things down in the process which sometimes makes for close games. The Bearcats won the shooting battle easily 45.8%-37.7% but it doesn't take much to have a close contest when both teams totaled only 100 shots. As usual, Sean Kilpatrick led the offense with 21 points and nine rebounds with Justin Jackson adding 14 points and eight pulls while Shaquille Thomas and Kevin Johnson netted eight points each.
Cincinnati will likely be small favorites but I do believe Connecticut has the balance to cause problems and if I get a few baskets I like them...Pick? I'll still go with balance.
