The UNLV Rebels and San Diego State Aztecs will play Friday night in a game that will send the winner to the MWC tournament final. The Aztecs swept the season series.
The Rebels won their first tournament game on Thursday with a 71-67 win over Wyoming. In the win, they grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, got to the line 25 times and turned the ball over just eight times. Bryce Dejean-Jones led the way with 22 points off the bench. On the season, the Rebels average 72 points on 43.8 percent shooting and allow 65.7 points on 40.2 percent shooting. Their biggest strength is their 40.2 rebounds per game average. They are 18-12-1 ATS overall this season.
The Aztecs won their first tournament game with an embarrassing 73-39 win over Utah State. They held the Aggies to 29.3 percent shooting, forced 14 turnovers and had 19 assists on 31 made baskets. It was easily the more complete performance we’ve seen during tournament week. On the season, the Aztecs average 69 points on 43 percent shooting and allow 57.9 points on 39.6 percent shooting. They average 38.3 rebounds per game. The Aztecs are 17-11 ATS overall.
The Aztecs are 4-0 ATS in their last four neutral site games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Rebels are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 meetings against the Aztecs.
This is an interesting game that’s going to come down to who can control the glass. The Aztecs won the first meeting by 11 points and the most recent meeting by nine points.
Considering the Aztecs’ starters got a lot of rest in yesterday’s game, you have to believe they’re rested enough to cover this number.
