The Texas-Arlington Mavericks and Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns will play Friday in the Sun Belt semifinals. The Ragin’ Cajuns swept the season series.
The Mavericks won their first tournament game with a 68-65 win on Thursday over Louisiana-Monroe. They only turned the ball over eight times, came up with 10 offensive rebounds and blocked five shots. Reger Dowell led the way with 18 points, which is certainly no surprise to anyone. It was their first time in six games holding their opponent under 70 points. On the season, the Mavericks average 74.7 points on 43 percent shooting and allow 78.6 points on 44.6 percent shooting. They are 14-11-1 ATS overall.
The Ragin’ Cajuns head into this game winning eight of their last 10 games. On the season, they’re averaging 79.6 points on 45.7 percent shooting and are allowing 75.8 points on 44.7 percent shooting. While they shoot only 67.7 percent from the free throw line, they have two players in Elfrid Payton and Shawn Long, who average 19 points per game. While they’re a fast paced team that scores a ton, they also average 38 rebounds. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 13-12 ATS overall.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-1 ATS in their last six games and 5-1 ATS in their last six against teams with a losing SU record.
The first meeting was won by 20 points back in January, while the last meeting in February was won by three points. With the fact the Ragin’ Cajuns are by far the better team and have had plenty of days off, I expect them to come out firing on all cylinders and cover the chalk.
The road for Texas-Arlington has come to an end.
