The Norfolk State Spartans open the CIT on the road at the Eastern Michigan Eagles Tuesday night.
Eastern Michigan finished 6th in the MAC but overall enjoyed their finest season in recent memory with a 21-14 record with a loss to Toledo in the semifinals ending their NCAA dreams. Eastern Michigan basketball means grind it out half courts sets that is heavily reliant on keeping the scoreboard manageable. The Eagles did this well with a 66-61 scoring edge with 36% shooting allowed although they connected at only 40% so suffice to say that there wasn't a lot of scoring when EMU was involved. Even if the Eagles have their way defensively points are still needed and Karrington Ward (12.7 ppg) and two DD scorers are the nucleus of the attack.

Norfolk State pulled off a few shockers a few years back so I'm sure they still have a few wary eyes on them. The Spartans mustered a third place finish in the MEAC and a 19 win season but fell victim to powerhouse North Carolina Central in the semifinals by a 68-43 count. The numbers say the Spartans squeezed out a 72-71 scoring edge but offense didn't consistently score in the 70's the last six weeks and the defense gave up more then 70 points four times so the D was improving. If the defensive end of the floor holds their own the likely candidates to score are Pendarvis Williams and Malcolm Hawkins who average over 15 points each.
I don't like laying the points here so for now I'll post my lean and try to dig deeper in to this. I'll update the morning of game day with any changes...
