The Sam Houston State Bearkats host the Alabama State Hornets in first round CIT action Tuesday.
Sam Houston State finished third in the Southland and defeated second seed Texas A&M-CC in the semifinals before a loss to first place Stephen F. Austin in the championship game ended their NCAA hopes. The Bearkats 23 win season did get them an invite to the CIT where they will display their high scoring offense and a defense that can best be described as bend but don't break. SHSU scores 76 points and allows 70 on 44% from the field so their D is required to make a few stops and hope the offense takes care of the rest. Jabari Parker and Kaheem Ransom lead the scoring with a combined 24.5 points.

Alabama State saw their invitation to the Big Dance go by the wayside in 73-61 to number two and eventual SWAC Texas Southern in the conference semifinals. Although the final numbers say the Hornets lived by a thread with around 72 points scored and 70 given up this team struggled to score at times and at other times saw the points flowing. The defense was also solid at times and gave up too much at others so each unit had some big swings which for a lack of a better word could be called inconsistency. If the D struggles versus Sam Houston State points will be needed and Jamel Waters (14.5 ppg) and DeMarcus Robinson (11.5 ppg) have to be leading the way.
No line out yet but Sam Houston State appears to be the more reliable scoring squad although Alabama State has the ability to score on any given day and possibly the better defense. I am leaning Bearkats if the spread is not out of this world...
