The Clemson Tigers and the Georgia State Panthers face off on Tuesday in a first round NIT game.
The Clemson Tigers finished in sixth place in the ACC but with a soft schedule and below par RPI The Tigers had virtually no chance of making the NCAA Tournament barring a much better record than they finished with. Clemson s 10-4 in out of conference and games and they went 4-9 against teams with a RPI better than 100. K.J. McDaniels leads the Tigers averaging 17 points ad 7.0 rebounds per game. The Georgia State Panthers won the regular season Sun Belt title going away but they lost to Louisiana in the Sun Belt Tournament and they wing up in this spot. Georgia State was 8-7 in non-conference games but played the 227th ranked schedule in the country. R.J. Hunter is averaging 18.4 points to lead the Panthers. Ryan Harrow is averaging 17.9 points per game, Manny Atkins is averaging 14.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, and Devonta White is averaging 11.5 points. Georgia State is averaging 78 points and they are shooting 47.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.9 percent. Winding up in the NIT is a major disappointment for Georgia State but they rarely get a chance at a major conference team like Clemson.
Clemson is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, 0-2-2 against the spread in their last four home games against a team with a winning road record, and 3-1-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. Georgia State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 road games, and 1-4 against the spread following a loss.
The total in this one is set at 123 and I have to believe it goes over that though it is just a lean. I also have a pick on who will cover the spread and that will be 100% FREE on the App as Mitch's App Attack Video.
