The Florida State Seminoles battle the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in round one of the NIT on Tuesday.
Florida Gulf Coast won't be playing Cinderella after getting the boot in the Atlantic Sun title game by Mercer. They probably won't be sneaking up on anyone either regardless of this being the NIT or any other tournament because all eyes will be on them to see if they are for real or a flash in the pan. FGCU has the ability to score and defend and will need both to be clicking to pull the upset at Florida State but the weapons are in place to be heard from with the nucleus of Chase Fieler, Brett Comer and Bernard Thompson averaging close to 44 points and likely needing to exceed that to pull the upset and get to the next round.

Florida State wasn't close to challenging in the new look ACC but at the end of the day a 9-9 record in one of the top conferences around while breaking in some new faces is hardly a disaster. The Seminoles score 70 points and shoot the basketball well at 46.5% but the defense they are known for is still solid and will probably be the reason for any sustained success in the NIT. If the Noles come close to matching their defensive numbers the scoring will be in good hands with the threesome of Aaron Thomas, Ian Miller and Okaro White providing around 42 points
Florida State will not lose this and will get their 20th win but the spread seems a touch high if Florida Gulf Coast shows up. I'll take a chance with the points with a still decent Eagles squad...
